Baldwin work session, public hearing scheduled for Monday November 6

The work session for the Baldwin City Council has been rescheduled for this Monday, November 6th at 6:30 p.m. due to the Municipal Elections taking place on Tuesday, November 7th.

A public hearing for a special use permit for the crypto-mining company Precision Digital will be held during this work session. If approved, this will bring Precision Digital one step closer to starting the construction of its new facility.

In recent months, the city council has been fielding questions and concerns about the amount of noise the facility may bring to the city once it is fully operational. The amount of electricity the facility will consume is an additional issue. In some locations, electric utility providers have had to add extra infrastructure to accommodate the electric usage of the crypto-mining facilities.

For the past several months, Baldwin and the Habersham County Development Authority have been working together on this project. Precision Digital purchased the property in the industrial park from the Development Authority in June and amended the sale agreement at the Authority’s September meeting.

Additional business on the agenda for discussion is the city’s wrecker policy and the 2024 council meeting calendar.

The Baldwin City Council work session will be in the Baldwin Municipal Courtroom at 155 Willingham Avenue in Baldwin. It is open to the public.
