ParkNYC to go offline this weekend as city updates parking app

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Planning to park in New York City this weekend? Make sure you feed the meter, because the city’s mobile payment method will be offline to accommodate a massive update.

ParkNYC, the mobile app that allows New York City drivers to pay their parking meter fares from their smartphone, will be offline from Thursday, Oct. 13, at 11:59 p.m. until Monday, Oct. 17, at 5 a.m.

During that time, users will be unable to access their account or use the app to pay for parking as the city transitions to a new, updated version of the app.

“DOT looks forward to launching a vastly improved ParkNYC mobile app that delivers new, convenient features and a simpler interface to make paying for parking easier than ever before,” said Department of Transportation (DOT) spokesman Vin Barone.

Currently, little is known about how exactly the redesigned app will differ from the existing one, though the city plans to share additional information on the new features in the coming days.

While the app is down for maintenance, drivers will still be required to pay for parking and are urged to pay at parking meters using coins, credit cards or parking cards.

“We appreciate drivers’ patience and advise all users to pay for parking via meters during this necessary service pause,” Barone said.

Soon the city will send an email to all ParkNYC users with additional details on how to transition their account to the new, redesigned app.

Additionally, those who have been using the ParkMobile app, as opposed to the ParkNYC app, will only be able to do so until through Saturday, Oct. 15, at 11:59 p.m.

As of Monday, Oct. 17, all mobile parking payments in New York City will have to be made through the new ParkNYC app.
