We found a creepy hidden camera staring at us in our Airbnb as we slept – we were terrified

A HORRIFIED couple found a creepy camera hidden in the bedroom of their Airbnb.

Ana Lucia Bezerra and Júlia Stoppa booked the beachside pad in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, for two weeks through the property share firm.

One week into their stay, Júlia said she and her wife noticed a strange air vent at the top of the closet in the bedroom.

In an Instagram video, the tattoo artist showed how she had to climb a ladder to reach the metal circle screwed into the wardrobe.

She explained how she hovered the flash on her phone over the hole and suddenly spotted the glint of what appeared to be a camera lens.

“I looked at a wardrobe that was above the entrance to the room and I saw a gleam,” Júlia said.

“When I saw the gleam, I said, ‘love, I think there’s a real camera’.

“Ana got very worried.

“I took a photo with flash with my mobile phone and a bright glow appeared that really looked like a camera lens.”

Ana and Júlia found the camera also had an audio cable – meaning someone could listen in to their conversations.

The cables led to the bathroom – but the couple couldn’t see if there was another camera in the bathroom, Correio Braziliense reports.

Ana said: “All abuse has to be exposed so that people are aware. 

“I think that everyone who sees this video will go to their Airbnb and look for a camera. 

“And you’ll have the opportunity not to go through the immense abuse we’ve been through. 

“Because we spent a week being exposed.”

Ana and Júlia, from Goiânia in Brazil, left the apartment as soon as they found the camera and told the cops about their discovery.

But after leaving, the victims reportedly received a fine from the apartment owner for R$10,000 (£1,684.86) for alleged damages.

“He’s charging for things that were already broken on the spot,” Júlia said.

“We are shaking, almost unable to speak. Charging for something we didn’t do.

“He didn’t put, in the photos of the claim for compensation, the photo of the closet damaged by us to discover the camera.”

When the pair contacted Airbnb, they were told legal action would be taken.

Airbnb told The Sun Online: “We take reports of this nature incredibly seriously, and our specialised Safety team has suspended this Host and listing from the platform as we investigate.

“We are also in contact with the guest to provide our support, including with a full refund.

“We enforce strict policies governing the use of monitoring devices in listings and take action in the exceptionally rare circumstance an issue is reported, including assisting law enforcement with their investigations.”
