CFDA Steps into the Metaverse, unveiling Commemorative NFTs

The designer NFT collection ‘Lighting the Path of American Fashion’, features seven one-of-one NFTs and comes with utility perks that will allow access to various experiences. 

Each NFT in the collection is curated alongside a partner brand including Coach, Diane von Furstenberg, Willy Chavarria, Wes Gordon for Carolina Herrera, Tommy Hilfiger, Vivienne Tam, and Michal Kors. Opening bids start from $15,000 to $25,000.

These NFTs will be available via auction on a dedicated blockchain platform powered by Polygon Studios, between December 12 to 16. The proceeds will go to the CFDA foundation.

In addition, the metaverse exhibition dubbed ‘Fashioning the Shades of American Design’ will open on December 19 on virtual world platform The Sandbox. Visitors can explore the exhibition’s five themes namely Illuminating a Fantasy, Illuminating the Avant-Garde, Illuminating Romance, Illuminating Understanding, and Illuminating Soul. 

A total of 60 looks from throughout CFDA’s operating years have been chosen to showcase the creativity of the organization’s members. The CFDA will also be partnering with MoonPay to utilize their white glove concierge service to facilitate the NFT purchases. 

Featured looks include reimagined versions of Stephen Burrows’ lettuce hem dress created for the 1973 Battle of Versailles, a grunge look from Marc Jacobs’ famed Perry Ellis Spring 1993 collection, and Dapper Dan’s 1980s custom designs and a Thom Brown menswear ensemble from his Spring 2020 collection.

The move intends to advance the future growth of the fashion industry via new technologies and virtual worlds. Earlier this month, Azuki and AMBUSH collaborated to bring web3-inspired fashion. Moreover, such initiatives and contributions would broaden the scope of NFTs and metaverse altogether in the coming years.
