Classic Doom revived on Dogecoin network

Doom, the iconic first-person shooter game from 1993, has found a new home on the Dogecoin blockchain, demonstrating the blockchain’s potential beyond financial transactions.

By inscribing data onto the blockchain, a developer effectively turned Dogecoin into a gaming platform. This process, known as an “inscription,” involves embedding data within a blockchain transaction. In this case, the data is the game Doom.

While Dogecoin was initially created as a joke, it has since gained a massive following and has been used for various purposes, including charitable donations and tipping online content creators.

Blockchains may be becoming a popular option to preserve retro games, which are becoming increasingly difficult to access without legal hurdles. 

Nintendo, one of the largest gaming firms from the 80s and 90s states on its website that downloading copies of its nostalgic games is illegal and can be punishable. 

Ninjalerts, a company specializing in non-fungible tokens (NFTs), has recently inscribed the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), one of Nintendo’s most iconic consoles, onto the Bitcoin blockchain, further exemplifying the growing intersection between blockchain technology and the preservation of classic gaming content.
