Carnival Adjusts Testing Protocols

Carnival Cruise Line has announced that starting September 6, unvaccinated guests will be able to submit unsupervised self-tests to satisfy the pre-cruise testing requirement. This applies to voyages 15 nights and shorter. Cruises that visit Bermuda, Canada, Greece, and Spain are excluded from this change.

As well, travel insurance is no longer required for unvaccinated guests unless it’s required by a specific destination on the itinerary.

Carnival also announced new requirements concerning voyages from Europe. Booster shots are no longer required for eligible guests in Europe. And on all voyages except those visiting Greece or Spain, unvaccinated guests five and older must present the negative result of a lab-administered or supervised self-test taken up to three days before embarkation.

Coin Ceremony Held For Celebrity Ascent

The keel has been laid for Celebrity Ascent, marking the official start of construction for Celebrity Cruises’ next Edge-class ship. To celebrate, the shipyard and cruise line held a coin ceremony, where a coin was welded onto the keel to bring good fortune to the vessel.

Ascent is Celebrity’s fourth Edge-class ship, following the 2018 launch of Edge, and two subsequent sister ships Apex and Beyond.

It is scheduled to debut in December 2023 in Port Everglades. Ascent will spend her inaugural season operating eastern and western Caribbean cruises.

Over 200,000 Bags Lost or Sent to Wrong Destination in the U.S. in May

If you’re flying to your next cruise, you may want to think twice about checking your bag. According to the latest Department of Transportation report published last month, over 237,000 bags were lost or sent to the wrong destination in the month of May.

The top three airlines who mishandled luggage the most were: American (76,000), Delta (44,900), and Southwest (41,000). Allegiant, Frontier, and Spirit all held the record for the fewest lost bags.

If you’re wonder what happens when you get to the ship without luggage, the cruise line will do their best to accommodate you with essentials, but you may be required to buy logo branded gear until the airline locates and forwards the bag to you.

This is another reason to always carry travel insurance.
