Dallas Zoo welcomes 4 new Arapawa goats

The Dallas Zoo announced Tuesday that it has welcomed four new Arapawa goats. The group will now call the Goat Yard — a part of the Lacerte Family Children’s Zoo — home.

Hansel, 6, is the oldest goat. He will roam the yard with 3-year-old Solana and 2-year-olds Vision and Legolas.

The zoo has welcomed several new animals this year, including baby whopping crane, a giraffe, lemurs, emperor tamarin monkeys and an elephant.

But goats have been in the headlines lately.

Dallas Water Utilities recently completed a pilot goat vegetation management program. Hundreds of goats were tasked with using their ferocious appetites to clear creek beds and channels of plant debris in two North Texas locations.

A rodeo goat named Willy escaped from her enclosure at a South Texas livestock show in July. She was found alive and well.

And in June, about 40 goats began eating through residential flower beds in a McKinney neighborhood.
