UK-based crypto exchange Exmo has suffered a hack that compromised 5% of its total assets. In a security incident update, the Exmo team notified its users of detecting a “suspicious withdrawal activity” on 21 December, 2020, following which, all withdrawals on the platform have been “temporarily suspended.”
The security audit report showed large withdrawals – at 2:27:02 UTC- of popular cryptos such as BTC, XRP, ETC and ETH. Additionally, coins like ZEC as well as USDT were also transferred out of the exchange. Exmo team stressed the fact that all the assets in the cold wallets were safe.
The hackers were able to withdraw stolen funds to the addresses mentioned in the image below:
Exmo has asked all services and exchanges to block all accounts that are connected to the aforementioned addresses and said that the team was trying to “locate the reason for the incident.”
Exmo team further said that they had already reported the case to the London police’s Cybercrime team and added:
We also will conduct a thorough security review that will include all parts of our systems and data.
The crypto exchange asked its customers to not deposit any funds to Exmo wallets until further notice and said:
We want to assure you that if any user fund is affected by this incident, it will be covered completely by Exmo.
