MetaMask fixes key privacy issue plaguing users

MetaMask has recently made a significant update to fix privacy issues that have been plaguing its users. Previously when MetaMask users connected to crypto applications, it would link all of their accounts together, even if they intended to keep them separate. 

However, with the latest update, MetaMask will now keep accounts separate when connecting to applications, and these connections will even be maintained in separate browser tabs. This new update is significant because it addresses a major privacy concern for users who want to keep their cryptocurrency transactions private. 

For instance, many users may want to use one account for public-facing activities, such as buying or selling cryptocurrency, while using another account for more private activities, such as DeFi trading. With this new update, users can maintain multiple accounts without the fear of them being linked together.

In a blog post, MetaMask explained that the latest update was designed to give users more control over their accounts. “For example, you may want to use Account 1 as your ‘public facing’ account associated with your ENS, while using Account 2 for your DeFi degen activities that you want to keep private,” the blog post read. “Now you can as they won’t be linked to each other.”

Aside from keeping accounts separate, the update also limits the amount of data that is sent to third-party services used to run the wallet extension. The blog post noted that when someone sets up a wallet, they’re able to choose any RPC provider, the service used to connect to the blockchain, instead of automatically using Infura, which is a provider owned by ConsenSys, the company that also owns MetaMask. It’s also possible to opt out of using Infura. This latest update comes after some privacy settings were changed in February, making it easier to change RPC providers. 

Few days ago, Security firm Halborn reported a vulnerability code-named Rab13s on the Dogecoin blockchain and which could also impact over 200 protocols. THe FBI also reported a new technique bad actors employ to steal funds from users through fake playtoearn games.

MetaMask’s successful fix of users’ privacy issues serves as a reminder that regular software updates are important and users should remain vigilant about their online security.
