Moonbeam Network Integrates Rarible Protocol, Hosts Cross-Chain NFT Collection From Carbify to Help Save the Rainforest

Moonbeam Network, a smart contract platform for building cross-chain connected applications, announced a partnership with leading NFT protocol Rarible. The first major NFT collection to be featured is from Carbify, a Real-World Assets platform that allows users to invest in Amazon Rainforest trees and collect carbon offset debits.

As a result of the partnership, developers can construct custom NFT marketplaces on Moonbeam using Rarible Protocol, a decentralized toolkit that simplifies NFT transactions. Additionally, Moonbeam and NFT collections on the chain will be listed on the Rarible.com NFT marketplace hub.

“Our partnership with Rarible enables our developer community to unlock cross-chain NFT use cases only possible on Moonbeam,” said Aaron Evans, Head of Operations at Moonbeam Foundation. “As our first major NFT project, we are thrilled to host Carbify, the most-efficient carbon-offsetting solution in the world.”

The integration of Rarible and the debut of Carbify are in line with Moonbeam’s ongoing Moonrise initiative, which includes an ambitious roadmap for 2024 and beyond, focusing on upgrading ecosystem integration and improving the Moonbeam experience for developers and users alike. In particular, the Carbify partnership supports Moonbeam’s key focuses on Real-World Assets, Brazil and cross-chain integration.

Carbify’s new application on Moonbeam allows users on any blockchain to buy NFTrees, tokenized representations of actual trees in the Amazon Rainforest. NFTree owners earn yield from the CO2 that their tree absorbs from the air, in the form of $aCO2 tokens that are equivalent to one unit of carbon.

“This is an exciting new phase for the Carbify community. We are very excited to partner with Moonbeam to expand our reach to the whole Web3 space,” said Carbify’s co-founder Jaap Harmsma. “With the new architecture, users will be able to buy NFTrees from any chain and claim their $aCO2 tokens from any chain, everything complying with EU regulations.”

Carbify has reforested more than 2,000 acres of Brazil’s Amazon Rainforest, replenishing critically endangered habitat and combating global climate change. The reforested area absorbs approximately 105,000 tons of C02 per year.

The partnership allows Carbify to expand its single-chain operation to an omnichain solution, with Moonbeam as the hub of operations. This interoperability is only possible through Moonbeam’s connected contracts approach, where any team can engage seamlessly with Polkadot parachains and Ethereum Layer 2s and Layer 3s.

As part of the partnership, the Moonbeam Foundation will acquire NFTrees to make the network carbon neutral in 2024. Additionally, Carbify’s Eco Empires Game will utilize Moonbeam as its hub for multichain interoperability.

Visitors to Blockchain Rio, which takes place July 25-26, can have the opportunity to check out a co-branded Carbified Moonbrew beer from Moonbeam and Carbify. Each bottle features a QR code directing drinkers to a page where they can claim an NFT that carries carbon debits that offset the beer’s carbon emissions.
