At the time of Santiment data on December 10, DOT was trading at $5.3. The cryptocurrency now exchanges hands at $4.5, a loss of 17%. Are the short positions responsible for this?

The definite answer to the question could be yes, although that’s not always the case. Increased short positions can actually boost an asset’s price. That happens when investors cover their short positions, leading to a market phenomenon known as a “short squeeze.” However, as it looks, there are no signs of a short squeeze for DOT.
