Alyssa Muto, who has worked for the city of San Diego in various roles, will become the new city manager of Solana Beach, the City Council announced March 27.
The appointment is effective May 6.
Muto is a graduate of Torrey Pines High School and San Diego State University, where she received a bachelor of arts degree in political science and a master’s degree in public administration.
For the last three years, Muto has been the director of the Sustainability and Mobility Department for the city of San Diego. She also has experience as a project manager in multiple government and private sector roles.
“I am honored to join the City of Solana Beach and work alongside its dedicated staff and community members,” Muto said in a statement. “I look forward to building on Solana Beach’s reputation as a vibrant, sustainable community and collaborating with stakeholders to address the city’s most pressing challenges.”
Muto’s compensation includes a $250,000 per year base salary, monthly automobile allowance of $500 and monthly technology allowance of $75.
The previous city manager, Greg Wade, left earlier this year to accept a position as CEO of the Clean Energy Alliance. Assistant City Manager Dan King has been serving as the interim city manager since January.
“Alyssa Muto’s proven track record of strategic leadership and commitment to community engagement make her the ideal choice to lead Solana Beach into its next chapter,” Solana Beach Mayor Lesa Heebner said in a statement. “Her innovative approach to sustainability, mobility, and land use planning align perfectly with our city’s beach town values and vision for the future.”
