XRP Can Now be Used as Payment for NFT Purchases and Gas Fees

XRP use cases continue to expand in blockchain services, as the asset now serves as a payment method for NFT purchases and gas for NFT trades on the Root Network.

Eri, a notable XRP community figure, first highlighted this use case in a recent demonstration on X. Eri called attention to an NFT purchase she made in the FLUF World ecosystem, with all payments carried out in XRP.

FLUF World is an NFT-based protocol focusing on character collectibles and other non-fungible elements. FLUF World’s characters can be leveraged for an immersive Metaverse experience powered by The Root Network, the blockchain network of the Futureverse ecosystem.

Eri’s disclosure featured a video showcase of the overview of the Futureverse. In the video, the influencer noted that the FLUF World was her first stop within the Futureverse, where she bridged her FLUF World collectible from the Ethereum network to the Root Network.

According to her, she created the bridge between Ethereum and Root networks by creating a path that linked MetaMask to the Futureverse. This enabled her to move her XRP to a Futureverse wallet easily.

Eri noted that this bridge was essential, as the purchase of her FLUF World collectible, dubbed “Onna Musha,” was made exclusively with XRP. She also confirmed that the gas used for the NFT purchase was paid with XRP, marking a pivotal step towards broader utility for the asset. Notably, the Root Network uses XRP for gas fees on all transactions.

XRP on the Root Network

The Root Network is a substrate-based EVM-compatible layer-1 blockchain with ROOT as its native token. While its native token functions as the staking token, the network has chosen XRP as its gas token. The Crypto Basic disclosed this in a June report.

Notably, using XRP as a gas token on the Root Network stems from a partnership between Ripple and FLUF World. Both entities collaborated last June to introduce “The Open Metaverse,” which was set to run on the Root Network. 

Per the June 2022 announcement, Ripple confirmed that the Open Network will be developed on the XRP Ledger. This synergy led to the use of XRP as a gas token. The XRPL, which welcomed native NFT functionality in October 2022, was to set the standard for NFT protocol on the Root Network.
