El Salvador bought the dip amid the bitcoin selloff, scammers targeted Ozzy Osbourne’s batz NFTs and Serena Williams scored a Bored Ape NFT. Watch Ross Mac of Maconomics break down the latest cryptocurrency news on TheStreet’s ‘Crypto Minute’ on Monday, January 24.
Transcript:
You have one nation’s president laughing at himself for buying so much Bitcoin while the latest tennis star jumps into the world of Web 3.0.
It’s your boy Ross Mac and these are the biggest cryptocurrency stories on Monday, January 24.
To make light of the recent Bitcoin sell off, El Salvador’s President Nayyib Bukele posted a photoshopped picture of him in a McDonald’s uniform on Twitter over the weekend. Now if you remember, El Salvador was the first country to accept Bitcoin as Legal Tender…Although he is joking about the situation, he is still a Bitcoin Bull as he just bought the Dip, purchasing 410 more Bitcoin.
Scammers took full advantage of some URL confusion with Ozzy Osbourne’s NFT collection. When the NFT project changed their Discord URL and left the previous URL up in tweets, scammers set up a Discord to take money from folks looking to buy one of the rockstar’s NFT batz, and managed to make off with thousands of dollars according to The Verge. Somebody needs to tell Ozzy that this is reality TV…the crypto and NFT market is actually real and can be dangerous if you aren’t careful.
In the latest news of athletes jumping on the NFT bandwagon, Serena Williams and Neymar Jr. just became Bored Ape Yacht Club Holders. Serena was gifted hers by her husband, Alexis Ohanian, the founder of Reddit, who is also an NFT enthusiast. It’s also important to note that Serena just joined the board of Sorare, a player-owned NFT fantasy sports platform. She will be advising them on how to make forthcoming web3 initiatives inclusive and diverse.
I’m Ross Mac and that was the Crypto Minute on TheStreet.
