City of Solana Beach celebrates Veterans Day with public ceremony
The City of Solana Beach and Solana Beach Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 5431 will jointly host a Veterans Day ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 11, from 11 a.m. to noon at the La Colonia Community Center, 715 Valley Avenue. The event is free of charge and open to the public.
A “Feathers from Heaven” doves release will occur, Camp Pendleton Young Marines will be the honor guard, and the Santa Fe Christian School Band and Dance Troupe will perform patriotic songs and dance. Also participating in the ceremony will be Mayor Lesa Heebner, City dignitaries and Julian Gonzalez, past post commander for VFW Post 5431. Special guest speaker, Emilson Reyes/USN chief retired, will address the community. Light refreshments will be served. For more information, call the Parks and Recreation Department at 858-720-2453.
San Diego Master Chorale concert at Village Church
The San Diego Master Chorale opens its new season with a concert series of unity and inclusion when it performs “Where All Are Welcome” on Nov. 4 at 4 p.m. at Village Community Presbyterian Church in Rancho Santa Fe. Featuring the works of five California composers including Jennifer Lucy Cook, Saunder Choi, Shawn Kirchner, R. Matthew Brown and Zanaida Robles, the program celebrates diverse cultures and the rich tapestry of human connection, according to a news release.

‘Sycamore Ridge PTA Drama Club presents ‘Finding Nemo. Jr.”
Sycamore Ridge PTA’s Drama Club is presenting a production of the new musical “Finding Nemo Jr.” Opening night is Friday, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. The show will also be held on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 6 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 5 at noon. Batiquitos Lagoon to hold presentation on ‘First People’
Batiquitos Lagoon will host a presentation on Nov.11 at 10 a.m. titled “First People”, given by Luiseno educator and storyteller Cathleen Chilcote Wallace, who will connect the past and present with stories of the native Luiseno and Kumeyaay people. Poway Symphony Orchestra opens season with renowned violinist Eugene Drucker
The Poway Symphony Orchestra (PSO) recently announced the opening of its 20th anniversary season with a special performance by Eugene Drucker, violinist and founding member of the world-famous Emerson String Quartet. The concert will take place on Nov. 19 at 4 p.m. at the Poway Center for Performing Arts.
The orchestra will open the season concert with the Overture to “Hansel and Gretel” by Engelbert Humperdinck and Symphonic Dances, Opus 64 by Edvard Grieg. Then Drucker will join the orchestra to perform the sublime Concerto in G minor, No. 1 by Max Bruch, as well as Ludwig van Beethoven’s Romance in F Major, No. 2.
