Solana Beach Friends of the Library to present a musical evening
On Tuesday, Dec. 12, at 6 p.m., the Solana Beach Friends of the Library welcomes back Villa Musica for another Holiday Singing and Classical Guitar event.
The Villa Musica Community Ensembles program engages a broad range of musicians from emerging professionals, keen amateurs, or lapsed high school band players to come together for the joy of making music. For their holiday program, ensembles from Villa Musica will present a variety of holiday music, with opportunities to sing along as well as just sit back and enjoy.
All are invited to attend this free program at the Solana Beach Library, 157 Stevens Avenue, Solana Beach.
Shalimar Flute Quartet to perform at Del Mar Library
The Shalimar Flute Quartet will perform Silver Sounds, a performance of light classical and holiday favorites at the Del Mar Library, 1309 Camino Del Mar, on Saturday, Dec. 16 at 1 p.m. Music highlights include Selections from the Nutcracker, Carol of the Bells, Hanukkah Suite, A Gaelic Offering, and Divertimento-Jazz, among others. The Shalimar Flute Quartet is a group of talented flutists and friends who enjoy playing a wide variety of music written for various combinations of C flute, piccolo, alto and bass flute. Members of the quartet have performed in a variety of musical groups and venues. The concert is free and open to the public.
Solana Beach Library to host “Fun Family” event
The Solana Beach Library will host a performance by Ralph Covert, aka “Ralph’s World”, on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 5 p.m. Ralph’s World is a “mega-fun music show where kids rock and dance to their heart’s delight.”

La Colonia Holiday Tree lighting
The City of Solana Beach and the La Colonia Community Foundation will celebrate the season with the La Colonia Holiday Tree Lighting on Saturday, Dec. 9 from 5-7 p.m. At La Colonia Park, there will be plenty of sweets, treats and Mexican hot cocoa to go along with all the fun, including traditional holiday aguinaldos treat bags for the children and delicious pan dulce (Mexican sweet bread). Santa Claus is also due to make an appearance.
La Colonia Park is located at 715 Valley Avenue.
Solana Beach community tree lighting
The annual free Holiday Tree Lighting at Fletcher Cove Park, 111 S. Sierra Ave., is from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Dec. 3 with live music, sweets, treats, cider and hot cocoa, hosted by the city of Solana Beach’s Parks and Recreation Commission. Christmas concert: ‘The Light of the Lord’
“The Light of the Lord” Christmas Concert is at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Dec. 3 with the Solana Beach Presbyterian Church Choir and worship band as well as a chamber orchestra and members of the San Diego Symphony at the church, 120 Stevens Ave. Highlights include short Christmas meditation. Holiday Festival at Carmel Valley shopping center
A free Holiday Festival with crafts, a magic show and a visit with Santa is from 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 2 at Piazza Carmel shopping center, 3810-3890 Valley Centre Drive.
Holiday festivities at the Village at Pacific Highlands Ranch
The Village at Pacific Highlands Ranch in Carmel Valley will jumpstart its holiday season festivities with a tree lighting ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 2 from 5-7:30 p.m. The event will include complimentary photos with Santa, music at three locations, cookies and hot chocolate.
The center will also bring back its complimentary train rides on two weekends in December: Dec. 2 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Dec. 4 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Dec. 9 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Dec. 10 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. On Sunday, Dec. 10 from 3-6 p.m., the center will also offer complimentary photos with Santa and live music.

Holiday Bazaar open house/fundraiser to benefit Laughing Pony Horse Rescue

La Jolla Symphony & Chorus new music director conducts ‘New Beginnings’ at December concert
La Jolla Symphony & Chorus will officially introduce its new Music Director and Orchestra Conductor Sameer Patel at its December concert, according to a news release.
Patel will conduct “New Beginnings” on Dec. 9 and 10. This highly-anticipated debut comes after the symphony’s year-long search for a new leader, which culminated this summer when Patel accepted the position.
The December concert will showcase an eclectic mix of compositions from Stravinsky, Sibelius, and contemporary composers Gabriela Ortiz and Kaija Saariaho.
Individual concert tickets for “New Beginnings” on Dec. 9 and 10 are available now. Tickets can be purchased by visiting ljsc.org or by calling the box office at 858-534-4637.
The symphony will also open its doors for an open dress rehearsal of “New Beginnings” on Friday, Dec. 8. This family-friendly event is not ticketed, and is free for the public.
Enjoy Breakfast in Bethlehem with Village Church event
The always popular Breakfast in Bethlehem returns to the Village Church in Rancho Santa Fe on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 9 a.m. in the Fellowship Center. Families will gather around to see and hear the Christmas story read by Senior Pastor Jack Baca and a few of his Bible character friends. Children can make ornaments and Christmas crafts while everyone enjoys a warm breakfast.

San Diego Zoo Jungle Bells festivities
Familiar holiday traditions take on a wild twist at the San Diego Zoo with the return of Jungle Bells, supported by California Coast Credit Union. Trivia Night at Ashley Falls supports Junior Achievement of San Diego
Torrey Pines High School’s Project Leaders of Tomorrow club will host a charity Trivia Night on Wednesday, Dec. 6 at Ashley Falls Elementary School, a chance to compete with teams to win up to a $400 cash prize. The event will be held from 5-8 p.m. in the multi-use room at Ashley Falls.
The Trivia Night is $10 per player which includes food, drinks and a welcome treat bag.
With the event, Torrey Pines seniors Nethra Mahendran, Sofia Kantor, Chris Ge are hoping to help tackle student loan debt by raising awareness and funds for Junior Achievement of San Diego’s fellowship program that offers financial readiness and literacy education to underserved San Diego youth.
