Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, has had his X (formerly Twitter) account hacked, resulting in victims losing over $691,000 thro malicious links, according to social media reports.

In a Sept. 10 X post, Dmitry Buterin, the father of Vitalik Buterin, has stated that his son’s account has been compromised:

“Disregard this post, apparently Vitalik has been hacked. He is working on restoring access.”

Blockchain investigator ZachXBT has been actively informing his 438,200 followers about the hacker’s actions, which have led to the illicit draining of $691,000 from Buterin’s followers through malicious links.

Consequently, this incident has reportedly led a user on platform X to claim they’ve suffered losses to their crypto punks NFT collection.

As of now, the prevailing minimum price for a Cryptopunk NFT stands at 46.99 Ethereum (ETH), which is approximately equivalent to $76,837.

This is a developing story, and further information will be added as it becomes available.
